Cape Woolamai is on the south-eastern edge of Phillip Island, about 90 minutes from Melbourne, with dramatic granite cliffs, long surf beaches and a relaxed coastal village.
The cape is the island's highest point, with clifftop walks out to the Pinnacles and the island's largest colony of short-tailed shearwaters. Its beach is one of Victoria's most popular for surfing, and part of the Phillip Island National Surfing Reserve.
Phillip Island's most exposed surf beach, patrolled in summer by the island's only surf life saving club. Strong rips make it one for experienced surfers: swim only between the red and yellow flags.
Clifftop tracks of 4 to 8 kilometres lead to the Pinnacles and the lookout at the island's highest point, with views to Wilsons Promontory on clear days. Bring water and keep to the paths.
The calm side of the cape, with low waves from Newhaven round to Cape Woolamai: good for kayaking, paddleboarding and walks at low tide. It isn't patrolled.
